Joiin review
A consolidation-first reporting app for Xero, QuickBooks, Sage and more. What it does well, what it costs and where it falls short.
Quick answer
Joiin is a consolidation and financial reporting app that sits on top of Xero, QuickBooks Online, Sage and several other ledgers, and turns many companies into one set of group reports. For most small and mid-sized groups, and for accounting firms with multi-company clients, it's the best-value option we've looked at: it starts at $23 a month for one company on annual billing, every plan includes unlimited users, reports and clients, and the 14-day trial runs on the top plan with no card. The main catch is that multi-currency and forecasting sit on the Pro plan, not the entry plan.
Our verdict
If your month-end currently involves exporting trial balances from several companies and stitching them together in Excel, Joiin is the first tool we'd try. It handles the parts of consolidation that actually go wrong in spreadsheets, such as account mapping, eliminations and currency translation, and it's priced by company rather than by person, so nobody has to ration logins. It's less of a KPI-benchmarking tool than Fathom and less of a firm-wide advisory platform than Spotlight, but for the core job of "give me accurate group numbers, every month, without a day of copying and pasting", it does that job well and cheaply.
Strengths
- Consolidation is the product, not a bolt-on
- Combine Xero, QuickBooks, Sage, MYOB and others in one group
- Unlimited users, reports and clients on every plan
- Eliminations, account mapping and part-owned subsidiaries handled
- Trial runs on the top plan, no card
- Excel Add-In, API and Power BI or Tableau connection on higher plans
Limitations
- Multi-currency and forecasting need Pro, not Core
- Your own FX rates, the API and Zapier are Max-only
- KPI benchmarking is lighter than Fathom's
- Forecasting is a newer feature than in planning-first tools such as Calxa
Who Joiin is for
Joiin makes the most sense for three kinds of people.
The finance manager of a small group. You might run a trading company, a property company that owns the building, and a newer subsidiary in Ireland or the US. Each has its own Xero or QuickBooks file because each is its own legal entity. The board, the bank or the owners want one set of numbers. Today that means a workbook with a tab per company, a lookup table that breaks every time someone adds an account, and a nagging doubt about whether the intercompany loan has been taken out properly.
The accountant or bookkeeper with group clients. Most of your clients are single companies, and Xero's own reports serve them fine. But a handful have holding structures, and those are the jobs that eat time and never quite get billed in full. Joiin's multi-client access and unlimited users mean you can put every group client on one subscription and let the client log in to see their own reports.
The franchise or multi-site operator. You want every location on the same basis, compared side by side, and rolled up into a network total. Joiin's account mapping makes "the same basis" achievable even when locations have drifted into slightly different charts of accounts. See our franchise reporting guide.
If you only have one company and want nicer reports, Joiin will do it, but you're not using its main strength. Read on for who should look elsewhere.
What using Joiin actually looks like
Here's the typical first afternoon, so you know what you're signing up for.
- Connect your companies. You sign in to each Xero, QuickBooks or Sage file and grant read-only access. Joiin says it only requests read-only access, so it can't change anything in your books.
- Create a group. Add the companies that belong together. You can set an ownership percentage for each entity, which is how Joiin handles subsidiaries you don't own outright.
- Map the accounts. If every company uses identical account codes, there's little to do. In real life they rarely do: "Sales - UK" in one file is "Revenue" in another. You map them once to a common layout and Joiin remembers.
- Set up eliminations. Joiin pulls every company's accounts into one list. You filter for the intercompany ones, such as "Loan to Harbour Retail" and "Loan from Harbour UK", and eliminate them with a click, either between specific companies or at group level.
- Run the reports. Consolidated P&L, balance sheet, cash flow and trial balance appear straight away, with each company available as a column so you can see who contributed what.
- Build a pack. Put the reports you send every month into a branded report pack, add commentary, and export to PDF or Excel, or present it live.
After that first session, month-end is mostly a matter of opening the pack once your bookkeeping is closed. The numbers update as the ledgers do.

Consolidation features in detail
Chart of accounts mapping
This is the unglamorous feature that matters most. A chart of accounts that has grown organically across three companies over five years will not line up. Joiin lets you build a group layout and map each company's accounts into it. You can also exclude accounts from reports, which is handy for suspense or clearing accounts you never want a board member to see.
Intercompany eliminations
Joiin's approach is account-based: you pick the intercompany accounts and eliminate them. That covers the common cases of loans, management charges and intercompany sales that you've recorded in dedicated accounts. Joiin also says it identifies corresponding transactions across entities to help you reconcile. If you're new to the concept, our explainer on intercompany eliminations walks through the entries.
One tip from experience: eliminations only work cleanly if both sides agree. Before you rely on any tool, reconcile your intercompany balances so the receivable in one company matches the payable in the other.
Part-owned subsidiaries and group structures
You can assign an ownership percentage to each entity, which Joiin says lets you consolidate partially owned subsidiaries, and you can build nested groups, for example a UK sub-group inside a wider international group. If your structure involves complex minority interests, test it carefully in the trial and ask Joiin's support how they'd model it.
Multi-currency (Pro plan)
Joiin translates each company into your reporting currency using month-end and average rates for the balance sheet and P&L. It supplies default rates, and you can enter your own; when you do, Joiin records the adjustments needed to keep the consolidation balancing. Using your own rates as the standard approach is a Max plan feature. Every currency is supported. Our multi-currency guide explains the accounting behind this.
Reports, dashboards and report packs
The built-in reports cover what most finance teams need monthly:
- Profit and loss, balance sheet, cash flow and trial balance, for any company or the group
- KPI reports such as margins and ratios
- Sales by customer, plus consolidated aged receivables and payables, which is surprisingly hard to get anywhere else
- Budget versus actual, with budgets shown alongside consolidated actuals
- Reporting by tracking category or class across companies (see our tracking categories guide)
Dashboards give a live one-page view, and global search lets you find an invoice, bill or payment across every connected company and drill from a report figure into the transactions behind it. Report packs are where most people end up living: a branded, ordered set of reports with commentary that goes to the board or to a client every month. If you need a starting structure, compare it with our board report template.
Integrations and mixed ledgers
Joiin connects to Xero, QuickBooks Online, Sage, MYOB, FreeAgent, Zoho Books, Pennylane, Puzzle, Fortnox and Stripe, and it accepts spreadsheet data for anything else. Joiin is an Intuit Platinum App Partner. The current list is on Joiin's integrations page.
The underrated part is mixing ledgers. Groups formed by acquisition often inherit a company on a different system. Rather than migrating it before you can report, you connect it as it is and map it into the group. That alone can save months.
On the Pro plan you get an Excel Add-In, so spreadsheet-minded analysts can pull consolidated figures into their own models. On Max, the API and Zapier connection push data into Power BI, Tableau or a data warehouse.
AI features
Joiin's AI layer, which it calls Joiin Intelligence, lets you ask questions of your figures in plain language, adds written summaries to report packs, and offers in-report analysis on the P&L, balance sheet, cash flow and KPI reports. AI chat and summaries are on every plan; AI agents, which carry out tasks such as building a board report or tidying duplicated accounts, are on Pro and above. On Max, an MCP connection lets external assistants query your consolidated data.
On data handling, Joiin says its AI runs on Anthropic's Claude through AWS Bedrock inside Joiin's own AWS environment, that your data isn't used to train external models, and that AI access follows existing user permissions. Treat AI commentary as a first draft: read it before it goes to a board.

Joiin charges by the number of companies you consolidate. Users, reports and clients are unlimited on every plan, and billing is available in USD, GBP, EUR, AUD and NZD.

What it costs in practice
A three-company UK group, one currency. Core covers it. Three companies sit between the 2-company ($29) and 5-company ($57) annual price points, so budget for the lower end of that range, and confirm the exact figure in Joiin's calculator.
A five-company group with a US subsidiary. You need Pro for multi-currency. The base price for five companies is $57 a month on annual billing; check the calculator for the Pro figure for your group.
An accounting practice with 20 client companies across eight groups. $139 a month on annual billing for 20 companies, with as many staff and client logins as you like. Compare that with per-user pricing elsewhere.
Which plan should you pick?
- Core if all your companies report in one currency and you don't need forecasting. Most UK-only groups start here.
- Pro if you have a foreign subsidiary, want three-way forecasting, or have analysts who live in Excel.
- Max if you need to set your own exchange rates (common when auditors or lenders specify rates), or you want to feed a BI tool or data warehouse.
Because the trial runs on Max, try everything, then notice which features you actually used before choosing.
Getting the most from the 14-day trial
Two weeks goes quickly. Here's what we'd test, in order:
- Connect every company, including any on a different ledger
- Map accounts and check the group trial balance agrees with the sum of the company trial balances
- Set up your intercompany eliminations and check they net to zero
- If you have foreign subsidiaries, compare Joiin's translated figures with last month's spreadsheet
- Rebuild last month's board pack and time how long it takes
- Invite a colleague or client and check what they can and can't see
- Ask support one awkward question about your structure and judge the answer
Security
Joiin says it uses end-to-end encryption, multi-factor authentication and secure cloud hosting, and that its connections to your ledgers are read-only. User management lets you control who sees which reports, which matters when clients or subsidiary managers log in.
Limitations to be aware of
- The entry plan is single-currency. If you have even one overseas company, budget for Pro.
- It's a reporting layer, not a ledger. Eliminations happen in reporting; Joiin doesn't post the matching intercompany entries in each company for you. If you need that, you're in multi-entity ERP territory.
- Benchmarking is lighter. If your clients want to see how they compare with industry averages, Fathom is stronger.
- Forecasting is newer. It's improving quickly, but planning-heavy teams may still prefer a dedicated tool such as Calxa.
Who should look elsewhere
- KPI-led advisors with mostly single-company clients: Fathom.
- Firms wanting one platform for reporting, forecasting, dashboards and staff certification: Spotlight Reporting.
- Teams that build everything in Google Sheets: LiveFlow.
- Budgeting and scenario planning as the main job: Calxa.
We've also compared Joiin directly with Fathom, Spotlight Reporting, Syft and LiveFlow.
